We report on tests we have been making using latest generation network equipment for transfers of large files, with the aim of improving data transfer efficiencies for BaBar, CMS, and other major HENP experiments now and in the future. We describe point-to-point LAN tests with Gbit links over fiber in multiple streams, tests between Caltech and SLAC over the NTON WAN, and comparisons between ATM and Ethernet transport efficiencies. In addition, we report on measurements made using channel bonding on dual-port Gbit ethernet cards, and some of the tuning parameters we used to maximise throughput. At the application level we have been using vanilla FTP, Globus FTP and a variety of third party tools such as Iperf and TTcp.
